This Friday Macmillan Cancer Support’s coffee morning fundraiser is returning to our church halls, schools and kitchens all across the country. Bringing together people to raise funds and awareness over a cup of coffee and a slice of cake, the “World’s Biggest Coffee Morning”, now in its 24th official year, has raised millions of pounds to date.
Of course, whether you’re taking part in a coffee morning this year or not, there are a number of other ways you can give to Macmillan all year round, including via Pennies.
Several retailers offer their customers the chance to donate just a few pennies when they pay by card in support of the cancer support charity including hotel chain Travelodge, boutique retailer Daniel Footwear and timber merchantsAlsford Timber.
Together, customers across these retailers have donated hundreds of thousands of times and raised over £200,000 for Macmillan– an extraordinary sum when you think each donation is only ever a few pence.
This money is vital to helping Macmillan provide support for people living with cancer, of which there are currently 2 million in the UK alone. From financial advice for someone recovering from a long and exhausting period of treatment, to medical and emotional support from a Macmillan nurse, there is no doubt how important donations are to sustaining this work.
In a single month, enough donations are made via Pennies to help run a large Macmillan Information and Support centre for an entire week, or to help fund much deserved holidays for as many as eight families affected by cancer.
