Sowing the seeds of opportunity

Spadework was established in 1984 and is a charity based on a five acre site in Offham, Kent, providing day care, training and practical experience for over 90 adults with learning and other disabilities. They aim to provide the support required to enable their trainees to reach their full potential and live as independent members of the community and this is achieved through work experience, development of life skills and interaction with the community. The trainees are involved in all aspects of the commercial operation – from growing the plants that are sold in the Garden Centre, to making cakes, jams and chutneys and serving customers in the Café and Farm Shop.

The Garden Centre, Farm Shop and Café are open every day to the general public, which enables the trainees to interact with the customers, helping to improve their social skills, which in turn can increase their confidence and self-esteem. Spadework works hard to cover basic running costs from commercial income but it is weather dependent, especially during the winter, and they rely on donations to fund capital projects. Your generous donations help improve the amazing services available for the trainees.
