Wales Air Ambulance Charity

Serving Wales, Saving Lives

Wales Air Ambulance covers the whole of Wales every single day. Each year their helicopters attend around 2,500 missions and they can be there for anyone in Wales within 20 minutes. But Wales Air Ambulance doesn’t just fly patients to hospital – they take A&E directly to patients. Their critical care consultants and practitioners have some of the most pioneering equipment and skills in the world, meaning patients receive advanced care before they even reach the hospital.  Wales Air Ambulance’s four helicopters are confronted with a diverse and challenging landscape too; over 8,000 square miles of remote countryside, bustling towns and cities, vast mountain ranges, and 800 miles of coastline.

With a widely scattered population and diverse landscape, many in Wales live in isolated locations, far from a major or specialist hospital. In urban areas, traffic congestion and collisions can significantly delay treatment when on a road ambulance. For these reasons, there is a recognised need for our four helicopters on active duty 365 days a year. Wales Air Ambulance is funded by the people of Wales. They rely entirely on the public’s support to help keep the helicopters flying, which is why your micro-donations, made via Pennies, have been so important.
