Looking back on this year at Pennies, we’re proud to have supported more charities than ever before.
Retailers old and new have not only been supporting their long-term charity partners using Pennies, but some fantastic charity campaigns too, and in September 2015 Pennies veterans Drake & Morgan gave their city diners the opportunity to raise funds for a local campaign close to their hearts – The Lord Mayor’s Appeal.
Each year the beneficiary charities of The Lord Mayor’s Appeal change, and in 2015 the money raised will primarily go towards two disability charities; Scope and Mencap.
In a single month, thousands of customers across 8 of Drake & Morgan’s London restaurants raised over £1,500 for The Lord Mayor’s Appeal, by choosing to donate just 50p when they paid their bills by card – a clear indication that even a little can mean a lot to charities in need.
Scope will use the funding given by The Lord Mayor’s Appeal to create the Scope Family Fund, an incentive to create more communication. The Scope Family Fund will allow the charity to increase support when families need guidance online or in person. Additionally, the Fund will also create online and face to face communities so parents can support one another, share problems and advice together.
Mencap will be using their funding to expand their advocacy services. Every year Mencap responds to over 30,000 calls and emails via its helpline. The Lord Mayor’s Appeal donation will help Mencap meet the expanding demand for this crucial service for carers and family members.
Furthermore, funds raised for the 2015 Appeal will also be used to support young people’s innate creative drive. Three Art institutions; The Royal Ballet School, Royal Academy of Artsand the City & Guilds of London Art School will all be funded to help nurture the brightest artistic talents and to retain London’s position as a creative hub.
We want to thank every diner who donated in September, and continue to donate at Drake & Morgan restaurants across London every week – thank you!
