Abandoned or unwanted, ill or injured, thousands of pets turn to Blue Cross for help every year. Since 1897, pets have been at the heart of everything they do; providing services including rehoming centres, veterinary care, animal welfare education and bereavement services for owners.
Blue Cross has been supported by two Pennies retailers to date, including current supporters Notcutts garden centre in Buckinghamshire and fashion brand Oasis, whose customers made Pennies donations in support of the charity for 5 months from November 2018 until March this year.
Building a new future for pets like Winnie
Customers shopping on the Oasis website or app (or joining the company’s wider campaign by purchasing a piece from the special Oasis collection inspired by rescue pets) donated their digital change to support a very important project for Blue Cross – the redevelopment of the Hertfordshire rehoming centre. The rehoming centre cares for cats, dogs, rabbits and other small pets who need to find new homes, and donations from Oasis customers will be used to help fund vital improvements – improvements that will enable Blue Cross to support more animals like two year old terrier cross, Winnie.
Winnie was found tied up whilst labouring a litter of puppies and was completely traumatised by a suspected life of neglect on a puppy farm. She was terrified of human contact and everything around her.
Thankfully, Winnie was found and able to rehabilitate at the Blue Cross rehoming centre in Hertfordshire and after months of care and attention she gained trust in two of the Blue Cross staff members. On her road to recovery she began to come out of her shell and enjoyed the company of other more confident dogs.
Thanks to the support received during her rehabilitation Winnie found a new forever home and thanks to your donations made online with Oasis, more dogs and other pets like Winnie will be able to receive the care and support they need on their journey to finding a new home.
Making pennies count for pets in need
Although the Oasis partnership has come to an end, Blue Cross is still supported by Notcutts in Booker, Buckinghamshire. Shoppers at the garden centre continue to round up their purchases to help the Blue Cross rehoming centre in Lewknor which supports pets in need across Oxfordshire and the surrounding counties. Like Hertfordshire, the Lewknor centre is a temporary home for those small pets in desperate need of a new home.
Each small change donation adds up to support the pets from arrival, through their care plan and to prepare them for their new home. So, whether you’re buying some new garden essentials or a lovely gift – you can still donate and help pets in need, just like Winnie.
A huge thank you on behalf of Blue Cross and their furry friends for all of your donations previously made on the Oasis website and for the continued support from the customers shopping in their local Notcutts in Booker – each micro-donation adds up to help change a pet’s life.
