If you’re anything like us, you will be enjoying the return of all day sports coverage since Wednesday’s opening ceremony kicked off the Paralympics. Our eyes are going to be glued to the TV screen tonight as we watch Sophia Warner chase a medal in the women’s T35 200M final at 20.15.
Sophia, who said some lovely words of support about Pennies earlier this year, is already a two times silver medal and two times bronze medal winner from previous Championships.
Mother of two, Sophia has cerebral palsy and is in the T35 athlete category, meaning she has difficulties with three of her limbs. But on top of family life and intensive training as an elite athlete, Sophia has also got 15 years of marketing experience behind her and this October will be taking up the post of Commercial Director with UK Athletics.
Due to classification changes, she’ll be racing alongside people she has never competed against before – some of whom are two seconds quicker than her, making the fight for a medal even tougher. But she’ll have a crowd of 80,000 screaming for her and millions more in living rooms around the country. We wish Sophia the very best of luck tonight and hope she can get the top spot on the podium!
