Gourmet Burger Kitchen and Cotswold Outdoor are among latest high-street names to partner with Pennies, supporting causes including Action Against Hunger and the National Trust.

Much of 2020, and 2021 so far, has been characterized by lockdowns, restrictions and huge challenges – across personal and professional lives. But what has also been present is a desire to do good, and to put something back into our communities.

Despite as many as 80% of Pennies partner retailers having to shut their doors during parts of the pandemic, we saw a 6% increase in donations in 2020, a trend that continues into 2021. And with that, the desire from new businesses to join the movement and create real impact for charity has never been greater.

In the first 6 months of this year, we’ve welcomed new high-street names to Pennies, and they’re set to make a big difference.

GBK adds Pennies to help fight hunger

Gourmet Burger Kitchen, part of the Boparan Restaurant Group, have become the latest restaurant chain to join the micro-donation movement, launching Pennies this May in time for reopening. Donations made by customers at the tills in branches of GBK across the UK will support Action Against Hunger, the charity leading the global fight against hunger.

Outdoor brands supporting our planet

Meanwhile, outdoor brands Cotswold Outdoor, Runners Need and Snow+Rock all launched Pennies in their stores this month in aid of National Trust, and National Trust for Scotland.

Customers have the opportunity to make a micro-donation through Pennies’ ‘digital charity box’ at the checkouts in all stores, in support of two campaigns focused on protecting our planet.

In Cotswold Outdoor, Runners Need and Snow+Rock stores in England, Wales and Northern Ireland, donations are supporting the National Trust Woodlands Appeal, while Scottish stores are supporting the National Trust for Scotland Footpath Fund.

You can find out more about both appeals, and the remarkable impact donations are set to have, here.
