Customers at The Entertainer toy shops continue to make a huge difference to the lives of children across the UK by donating in their thousands via Pennies, the electronic charity box. Shoppers at The Entertainer’s 88 stores have now raised over £400,000 for charity in just over 2 years. In the last six months alone their customers have generously donated over 250,000 times.
The Entertainer has recently expanded its support to include two further regional hospital charities – The Great North Children’s Hospital in Newcastle and Yorkhill Children’s Charity in Glasgow. They join Alder Hey Children’s Charity, Birmingham Children’s Hospital, Wallace and Gromit’s Grand Appeal (supporting Bristol Children’s Hospital) and Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity who are already benefiting from the funds raised via Pennies.
Donations are set to rise even further in the coming months as customers begin their Christmas shopping. Last year, The Entertainer received over 180,000 donations via Pennies in the five weeks to Christmas.
Said Gary Grant, Managing Director and Founder of The Entertainer, “People are inclined to be generous, and it’s been amazing to see this generosity continue at such a pace and add up to fantastic sums for charity. Our traditional charity boxes would generate less than £2,000 a year so it has been tremendous to see the donations come in so quickly and easily with the electronic charity box, allowing us to support more charities as we grow.”
Pennies is now live with over 50 partners and has raised more than £1,700,000 for over 75 different charities. As well as The Entertainer, Pennies is available in a range of other retailers including Domino’s Pizza, Travelodge, Zizzi, Monarch Airlines, DFS, Screwfix and Gieves & Hawkes.
