It’s all hats and scarves here in the Pennies towers now we’re into chilly October. In just a few weeks it will be half term for schools, so we thought it’s a great time to let you know how your donations are helping one group of children when they break for a week this Autumn.

Jamboree sailing - Childrens Burns UnitChildren’s Burns Trust, one of ten charities that share every donation, are using the money raised via Pennies to help them put on their annual four day National Jamboree taking place from Nov 1st. This activity week gives children with burn injuries a chance to build supportive relationships with each other, gain confidence and improve their self-esteem.

“It has helped the children to realise they are not alone, and can still do enjoyable activities after their burn,” explains Play Specialist from Sheffield Children’s Hospital, Kathryn Topham, about a previous event. “Some wouldn’t get this kind of opportunity without Jamboree.”

Taking place this year at Grafham Water Centre in Cambridgeshire, nearly 50 children, burns specialists and volunteers will join in with activities, meet old friends and make new ones.

Jamboree Bike Ride - Childrens Burns UnitYour donations will help ensure children and specialists can attend these valuable and fun events for absolutely free. In fact, your pennies have added up to over £15,000 for Children’s Burns Trust, which covers the £12,000 it costs for around 40 children and adults to come along to the Jamboree.

This is a fantastic amount of money raised so far – but don’t forget that every penny donated via Pennies helps the charity continue the unique work they do throughout the year.
