Pennies’ retailers raise thousands for BBC Children in Need, all year round
When you choose to donate a few extra pence via Pennies, you know that your money is helping improve thousands of lives. In the case of that 50p donated in-store when shopping at DFS, or online when booking a holiday with Monarch Airlines, your money is helping BBC Children in Need fund projects that ensure children across the UK are given the best possible start in life.
Take Home-Start: BBC Children in Need currently funds almost 100 individual Home-Start projects that offer a variety of play groups, activities, trips and events that directly benefit children throughout the UK.
The projects are run by volunteers who, as parents themselves, offer their time to support other parents with under-fives who are struggling for whatever reason, be it disability in the family, illness, behavioural issues, addiction, domestic violence, financial concerns, bereavement or life in the Armed Forces.
In many instances, the volunteer can be the difference between children being taken into care or continuing to live at home.
So far, Children in Need have received over £6,000 from Pennies’ retailers DFS, Monarch Airlines and Cosmos Holidays in support of their work with projects like Home-Start across the country.
Branches of DFS alone see an average of 500 donations each month – that’s enough to pay for a new cooker for a child with Cerebral Palsy and his family after their old one was condemned as unsafe, making sure they can continue to cook themselves healthy meals.
The money you give via these retailers makes a difference every day, all year round. Tune in to the BBC Children in Need Appeal Night on BBC1 this Friday, 15th November, to find out more about how your donations are benefitting thousands of children and their families.
