A bumper year for the electronic charity box as Pennies turns three
A bumper year for Pennies – the electronic charity box as it turns three. On 8th November 2010, we received our first donation via Domino’s Pizza, marking the beginning of the Pennies movement. Three years on, Pennies has partnered with over 50 businesses and numerous card payment service providers, raising vital funds for over 75 charities.

What’s more, this past year has seen the Pennies movement take on even more momentum. This time last year, customers had donated via the electronic charity box 3.5 million times. Today, that figure has doubled, and the pace of donations continues to grow as we welcome new partners every month. The last 12 months have seen Pennies made available across sectors with over 30 new partners, including Monarch Airlines and Cosmos Holidays, The Fragrance Shop, Evans Cycles, high-end brands Gieves & Hawkes and Daniel Footwear, and charity retailers Tenovus and CLIC Sargent, among others. In the hospitality sector ASK Italian, who turned on Pennies in March 2013, has seen donations fly in for Great Ormond Street Hospital children’s charity with 250,000 donations in just 6 months. To date, your pennies have raised an amazing £1.7 million from 7 million individual donations. That money has helped charities like Rays of Sunshine grant ill children the wishes of a lifetime, helped Macmillan support young people like Kathryn affected by cancer, and provided Kids Company with essential funds to ensure London’s children do not go hungry. We’ll be celebrating our ‘Pennies-aversary’ today with, fittingly, a slice of Domino’s pizza and some special Pennies cupcakes, but most importantly, we want to take today to thank everyone who has helped make this year our most successful to date. Thank you!
