Partnering with Pennies

Domino’s has partnered with Pennies since 2010 and has supported their charity partner Teenage Cancer Trust since 2015, raising over £6 million through micro-donations. This ongoing partnership has played a crucial role in providing vital support and resources to young people facing cancer across the UK. The funds raised have helped Teenage Cancer Trust continue their mission of providing expert care and emotional support to teenagers and young adults with cancer, ensuring that no young person faces cancer alone.

Through micro-donations, each small contribution adds up, making a significant difference in the lives of teenagers like Eilidh, who found hope and companionship through the Teenage Cancer Trust’s support services.

Eilidh’s Journey

Eilidh’s life took an unexpected turn when she was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia. Amidst the overwhelming anger and denial, she found a beacon of hope and support in the form of Rónán Kelly, her Youth Support Coordinator at the Royal Hospital for Children in Glasgow. Describing Rónán as a “real-life angel” and a superhero, Eilidh recalls how he brought light into her darkest moments, especially during her time in the Schiehallion Ward.

“I experienced an overwhelming amount of anger, I suppose at the world, and went into denial about what was happening to me.”

Eilidh

Rónán’s unwavering positivity and support helped Eilidh navigate her emotions and the realities of her diagnosis. From the simple gesture of bringing her a Magnum ice lolly to making her laugh with his upbeat spirit, Rónán played an important role in Eilidh’s journey. Despite her initial resistance, his persistence and kindness eventually led her to the Teenage Cancer Trust lounge, where she found herself feeling better.

Eilidh’s story is a testament to the profound impact that the Teenage Cancer Trust has on the lives of young cancer patients. After spending two months in intensive care, her longing to return to the Schiehallion Ward and her immediate question, “Where’s Rónán?!” highlight the deep connection she formed with the support network provided by the Trust.

The Teenage Cancer Trust lounge became a happy place for Eilidh, where she built lasting friendships with fellow patients. The laughter she experienced there was vital in helping her cope. Rónán’s presence and the friendships she made transformed what could have been an isolating experience into one filled with love, support, and a sense of family.

Lasting Impact: Pennies and Teenage Cancer Trust

This partnership with Teenage Cancer Trust shows the power of micro-donations in making a difference in young people’s lives. The over £6 million raised has enabled Teenage Cancer Trust to continue offering essential services and support to teenagers like Eilidh, providing them with the care and community they need during their cancer journey.

Just under 15 minutes of micro-donations made by Domino’s customers could help Teenage Cancer Trust fund a Youth Support Coordinator who can provide the extra help that young people with cancer need with things like studies, relationships and mental well-being.

Just under two hours of micro-donations made by Domino’s customers could buy a block of yoga, music, or art sessions for young people with cancer on one of Teenage Cancer Trust’s hospital units – helping them relax, refocus and enjoy a much-needed break from the routine of cancer treatment.

Eilidh’s heartfelt words about Rónán and the Teenage Cancer Trust underscore the importance of this support: “To me, he is Teenage Cancer Trust.”

This partnership not only funds critical services but also fosters connections that profoundly impact the lives of young cancer patients, ensuring they are never alone in their fight against cancer. Together, through small acts of generosity and partnership, we can continue to bring light and hope to those who need it most.
