Pennies appoints Chairman of Monitise Group Peter Ayliffe to Board of Trustees
Pennies, the digital charity box has appointed Peter Ayliffe to its Board of Trustees. Current Chairman and Non-Executive Director of Monitise, Peter will be providing strategic counsel to Pennies through his expertise in financial management. Monitise is a leading mobile banking and payments group that provides services to more than 350 financial institutions and other leading brands globally.
Pennies provides a digital version of the traditional charity box, offering customers the chance to donate anything from 1p to 99p when they pay by card. Since its launch in November 2010, Pennies has received over 10 million donations through its retail partners amounting to over £2,400,000 raised for charity so far. Retail partners include Domino’s Pizza, Travelodge,Zizzi, The Entertainer, and Evans Cycles.
Until September 2013 Peter was President and Chief Executive Officer of Visa Europe where he was responsible for Visa’s European business in 37 countries, accounting for some 30% of the worldwide expenditure on Visa cards. Prior to Visa Europe, Peter spent over 30 years in retail banking. Peter has also been on the board of Investors In People (UK) and is currently President of the Chartered Management Institute (CMI) and a Non-Executive Director of Coventry Building Society.
Peter stated, “Pennies is future proofing charitable giving by enabling consumers to give digitally. It is already making a huge difference to charities nationwide. It is a real privilege to be working with Pennies and I urge retailers around the country to look at Pennies and get involved. Current retailers are extremely pleased with the simplicity of the system along with the benefits to their CSR programmes.”
