Pennies, the award-winning fintech charity, found in a survey that 48% of UK consumers would be more likely to micro-donate if they knew giving just 35p a week could raise £1 billion annually for charities.
Screwfix reaches £1.1 million in micro-donations
Screwfix began their Pennies journey in 2012 supporting chosen charity partner Everyman – a charity researching into the prevention and cure of male cancers. After a year of customers pressing ‘yes’ and donating at the Screwfix.com checkout, the business decided that those Pennies donations should support a cause a little closer to home and began raising funds for The Screwfix Foundation.
The Screwfix Foundation was set up in 2013 with the aim of raising funds to support projects to fix, repair, maintain and improve properties and community facilities for those in need throughout the UK. The charity works with both national and local charities donating much needed funding to help all sorts of projects, from repairing buildings and improving facilities in deprived areas, to decorating the homes of people living with sickness or disability.
Screwfix are currently celebrating the Foundation’s fifth birthday and having raised £3.3 million for over 800 local projects. Pennies have played a huge role in this fantastic achievement – since launch, £1.1 million has been raised by Screwfix customers shopping online and rounding up their purchase to the nearest pound with Pennies, the digital charity box.
John Mewett, Trustee of The Screwfix Foundation said:
We’re so delighted to be celebrating both the fifth anniversary of the Screwfix Foundation and an amazing £1.1 million milestone, achieved by the Pennies Foundation partnership. We’d like to thank our wonderful staff and customers for all their hard work, commitment and generous support over the last five years. We look forward to continuing to support our communities in the years ahead.
Pennies is thrilled to have been part of this amazing achievement, and to witness the impact of Screwfix customers’ generosity. Pennies CEO Alison Hutchinson CBE, said:
We’re blown away by the consistent generosity shown by the customers shopping online with Screwfix. We want to congratulate and thank Screwfix and their customers for rounding up their bills for charity more than 7 million times and for giving their pennies a real purpose.
We are proud of our partnership with Screwfix and continue to support their fundraising efforts for the Screwfix Foundation through our digital charity box. Next time you shop online with Screwfix, remember you too can round-up and donate your digital pennies – pennies that really add up to make a huge difference for local charities and beneficiaries.
