Did you know that when The Entertainer first introduced Pennies, it raised more money for charity in the first week than it had in a whole year via their traditional counter-top collection boxes?

That was over three years ago, and today donations continue to roll in in their thousands every single week.

Not only that, but more customers than ever before are pressing ‘yes’ and rounding up their purchases to the nearest pound with more than double the donations flooding in last week compared to those early days in 2011.  Last week’s pennies alone added up to an incredible £3,800.

Since becoming the first retailer ever to offer Pennies in its stores, The Entertainer and its customers have defied expectations and proven their generosity time and again.  This week sees them hit the £600,000 mark, an incredible sum raised in support of six amazing children’s hospital charities*.

If you’ve spent time on the Pennies blog before, you’ll probably have heard some of the fantastic schemes and projects money raised via The Entertainer has helped support. From arts and crafts materials for patients like Emily and music therapy for kids like Archie, to helping fund desperately needed child cancer units, these pennies keep on making a huge difference.

So this week, we’re saying a BIG thank you to everyone involved in this brilliant milestone. Thank you for your time, donations and support, and here’s to the next three years!

*The six children’s hospital charities are Alder Hey Children’s Charity, Birmingham Children’s Hospital, Great North Children’s Hospital, Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity, Wallace & Gromit’s Grand Appeal andYorkhill Children’s Charity.  Find out more about the work of each charity by clicking on the links.
