Micro-donations add up to £80K to help young people like Afsana turn their life around

Back in the summer of 2011 Pennies was rolled out across the tills in Zizzi restaurants. Eighteen months on, customers have donated over 600,000 times with their pennies adding up to more than £132,000 for charity. Most of this money has gone to their main beneficiary partner the Prince’s Trust who have used donations to help young people improve their lives, build confidence and achieve their ambitions.

Micro-donation charity Pennies gains momentum as its electronic charity box donations double in just eight months, bringing the total raised to £1,000,000. This has been collected from more than 4 million individual donations averaging just 25p each.

Eight charities in total have joined forces this week to celebrate and recognise the work carried out by the nearly six million unpaid carers in the UK – that’s 10% of the population! Caring for someone, whether it’s a loved one, family member or friend, can impact on a carer’s health and well-being enormously, which is why this year’s theme is “in sickness and in health”.
