Tailor-made donations from Gieves & Hawkes custmers help keep British craft alive
In November 2012, bespoke tailor Gieves & Hawkes began offering Pennies in their world-famous store at No. 1 Savile Row. By offering their customers the chance to donate 75p when paying by card, thousands of pounds has been raised for the tailor’s two charity partners, Walking With The Wounded and the Queen Elizabeth Scholarship Trust (QEST), an organisation that helps craftspeople in Britain to achieve their potential and contribute to a thriving craft sector.
Pennies appoints Chairman of Monitise Group Peter Ayliffe to Board of Trustees
Pennies, the digital charity box has appointed Peter Ayliffe to its Board of Trustees. Current Chairman and Non-Executive Director of Monitise, Peter will be providing strategic counsel to Pennies through his expertise in financial management. Monitise is a leading mobile banking and payments group that provides services to more than 350 financial institutions and other leading brands globally.
Third of Brits never carry cash, Pennies research finds
The UK’s ever increasing shift to digital payments is leaving the need for good old fashioned cash taking the first steps on the road to extinction. A recent study conducted by Pennies, the digital charity box, has revealed that a staggering 30% of us regularly leave the house without any cash, whilst almost half (47%) of 16-24 year olds use their cards for payments under £2 and three quarters (75%) use their card for payments under £5.
Age UK raises extra funds on the high street with Pennies
Each month, more and more charities start using Pennies in their own shops, raising important additional funds for their vital work. One of these is Age UK, the country’s largest charity dedicated to helping everyone make the most of later life, providing services and support at a national and local level to inspire, enable and support older people.
Zizzi Ristorante Customers make a million micro-donations via Pennies to charity raising £200,000
Zizzi’s customers have shown that they are all heart by adding an extra 20p to their bill for charity, a cool one million times, via Pennies, the electronic charity box. The Italian food fans’ donations have totaled £200,000 since the scheme was introduced, with that money already making a difference to main beneficiary, youth charity, The Prince’s Trust.
Pennies’ retailers raise thousands for BBC Children in Need, all year round
So far, Children in Need have received over £6,000 from Pennies’ retailers DFS, Monarch Airlines and Cosmos Holidays in support of their work with projects like Home-Start across the country.
A bumper year for the electronic charity box as Pennies turns three
This time last year, customers had donated via the electronic charity box 3.5 million times. Today, that figure has doubled, and the pace of donations continues to grow as we welcome new partners every month. To date, your pennies have raised an amazing £1.7 million from 7 million individual donations.
One million donations made so far at The Entertainer have helped to improve services for children in hospital
Donating a few pennies when you pay by card at the till point may not seem like much but to children sitting in hospital beds around the country this small action is making a huge difference. Since August 2011 customers paying by card in the Entertainer toyshop stores have been happily popping their virtual spare change into the Pennies charity box. Just 18 months in, we’re excited to announce that they’ve donated a magnificent 1,000,000 times, raising well over £300,000 for charity.
Raising a glass to Adnams customers who’ve raised over £20,000 in support of Prostate Cancer UK
Adnams: the Suffolk-based brewers and distillers have been offering Pennies at the tills of their kitchen and cellar stores for the last 11 months. In that time their customers have donated over £20,000 to Prostate Cancer UK by rounding up their purchase to the nearest pound when paying by card
Smiles all round at this year’s Special Olympics GB National Summer Games in Bath
Now in its 9th year, the Special Olympics National Summer Games act as an opportunity to not only promote and support the talents of athletes with intellectual disabilities, but to help build relationships between disabled and non-disabled people too, with every event free for the public to attend.
Micro-donations at ASK Italian help Great Ormond Street Hospital build for the future
In the five months since Pennies was introduced in ASK Italian restaurants, customers have raised an extraordinary £24,000 for GOSHCC, just 20p at a time.
Pennies is a runner up at the Nominet Internet Awards 2013
Last night a few members of the Pennies team got dressed up to the nines and headed off to the Nominet Internet Awards 2013. Held at the British Library, the awards were celebrating the internet being used as a force for good and we were delighted that Pennies work raising donations online was nominated in the ‘doing good online’ category.
